Doug is the founding partner at Peak Legal LLC. He has been a Colorado licensed attorney since 1996 and has tried over 100 felony and misdemeanor cases. He served as a Senior Deputy District Attorney, for more than 12 years, in the Jefferson County SVU (Crimes Against Children Unit) and the Domestic Violence Unit and Felony Prosecution Unit. Doug is especially well-versed in homicide, violent crimes, and Colorado’s complex sex offender and child abuse laws.
Doug graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1986 and The University of Missouri School of Law in 1996, where he was appointed Order of Barristers based on his trial advocacy and litigation skills.
Before his law career, Doug was a journalist and investigative reporter, covering major crime and court trials. This experience makes him uniquely skilled at questioning police and other witnesses to elicit critical facts and achieve the best outcome for his clients.
A longtime felony prosecutor in Jefferson and El Paso counties (two of the Front Range’s largest District Attorneys Offices), Doug has tried numerous felony and misdemeanor cases, including: homicides, sexual assaults, child abuse, domestic violence, drug distribution and possession, robberies, and theft. He has also represented hundreds of parents in domestic relations and dependency and neglect cases in the Denver Metro area, both as a private counsel and state appointed attorney. In the past, he also served as a guardian ad litem, representing the best interests of children.
Doug was selected to speak at the statewide Colorado District Attorneys Council annual conferences about preparation and prosecution of major felony cases, both as a prosecutor and as a defense counsel. He also spent several years defending entities and professionals against lawsuits, has served on the statewide Child Fatality Review Team, and was Senior Corporate Counsel and Director of Investigations at Qwest Communications, a Fortune 500 Company.
When he is not serving clients and running the law practice, Doug is cycling, hiking and enjoying the Colorado outdoors with his family and their dogs.
